When a person is said to be the best of the best, you expect nothing but greatness from him. This holds true with Abraham-Louis Breguet, the world-renowned horologist who brought about many innovations in the watch-making industry, one of which is tourbillion - a way to resist gravity when a timepiece is rotated.

Since Abraham-Louis Breguet founded Breguet in 1775, soon after he got married to a well-off French businessman's daughter, he put his experience as an apprentice watchmaker to good use. His knowledge in mathematics also helped him produce watches of unique design. Before he knew it, he had a loyal following.
Among his most ardent patrons were King Louis XVI who bought plenty of Breguet watches and Queen Marie-Antoinette who contracted Breguet to create a watch consisted of a clock, a repeater, a perpetual calendar, a thermometer, a power-reserve, a para-chute, and a chronograph. All these are the known watch functions during the time. Although the Queen did not live to see the watch come to existence, Breguet was able to produce the watch. It may have been 34 years late but the watch was still considered quite a feat.
Apparently, Breguet watches were much appreciated by royalty and nobleman. Other highly regarded clients of Breguet include Napolean Bonaparte, Joséphine de Beauharnais, Lous Antoine de Bougainville, Selim III, Tsar Alexander I, Caroline Murate, George Washington, Sergei Rachamaninoff, Dmitry Medvedev, Leo Tolstoy, Aristotle Onassis, and Victor Hugo.
Now a member of the Swatch Group, Breguet continues its tradition of creating watches that are both admired for their design and technology. Some of the collections are Classique (a round piece with bezels and lugs), Marine (water-resistant with crown guards), Heritage (has tonneau-shaped cases), and Type XX,XXI (solid chronographs).
