Unlike the other founders of Swiss watch companies, Carl F. Bucherer was not a watchmaker; nor was he associated with any breakthrough in watchmaking technology or innovation. He was a businessman and a passionate patron of various art forms. His proclivity for wise investments and his love for art were influencing factors in the opening of his first watch and jewelry store in 1888 in Lucerne, Switzerland, a place known for its fashionable shops. His eye for exquisite timepieces made his store a hit among many rich tourists and eventually led to the opening of other shops in Interlaken, Lugano and St. Moritz. By 1915, he opened another location on the prestigious Unter den Linden Boulevard in the Mitte district of Berlin. This would become the flagship location for Bucherer’s extensive collection of luxury timepieces.

Around this time, Bucherer's sons began to express interest in the family business. Carl Eduard and Ernst Bucherer showed the same gut instincts as their father when it came to company matters. Ernst, however, not only had a mind for business but also demonstrated talent for watchmaking as well. In fact, his skill in watchmaking was acknowledged by William II, Kaiser of Germany, who commissioned his services for a custom watch. With Ernst as the company's watchmaker, Bucherer started creating its own watches. True to Carl F Bucherer’s eclectic style and tastes, the first Bucherer branded timepiece was a tribute to Art Deco design.
As of today, the company is under the supervision of Jörg Bucherer, the grandson of Carl. Bucherer currently offers three distinct collections of timepieces, each unique in design and purpose. Pathos is suitable for women who exude grace. Archimedes is favored by those who value stylish timepieces. Patravi defines chic and functional. This collection won popularity points of both men and women.
