Omega is the last letter of the Greek Alphabet. Literally, it means great. With a name like that, what can you expect from Omega other than first-class exceptional watches?

It is safe to assume that this is exactly what the founder of Omega had in mind when he started his own watch company in 1848. However, when Louis Brandt at the young age of 23, first opened his office to produce key-wound precision pocket watches made from parts supplied by local craftsmen, things were far from great. There were sporadic orders, watches of disputable quality, and inconsistent design. It was not until the forerunner's sons Louis-Paul and César decided to take total control over production that the business started to look up.

The two brothers worked hard in producing watches such as the Gurzelen, Celtic, Patria, and Labrador. It was not long before they finally put their watches in line with other noteworthy watch manufacturing companies. When they created the first Omega branded watch in 1894, the public took more interest in the company and from then on, they decided to use the Omega brand on all their watches.

Since 1894, Omega had its share of ups and downs. Thankfully, it has more of the former than the latter. There were issues of mergers and financial takeovers between 1900s and 1980s. By 1998, Omega officially became a part of the Swatch Group. In spite of these matters, Omega continued to create watches that can only be described as premium quality. A case in point is the Omega Speedmaster Professional, a manual winding chronograph chosen by NASA to be worn by astronauts in the Apollo program. Since its introduction in 1957, it has been dubbed as the “official wristwatch for all manned space missions”. Another Omega watch held in high esteem is the Calibre 2500. Created in 1999, it was the first watch to have the co-axial escapement. To date, Omega has been the official timekeeper for the Olympics four times, including the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Omega models available in the market are Constellation, Deville, Specialties, Speedmaster, and the Seamaster Series which includes the watches worn by Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig when they played the role of James Bond.
