The roots of the company can be traced back in 1865 when a 22-year old Georges Favres-Jacot created new watches out of removable parts. Since the parts of the watches can be taken out and repaired, it provided a whole new level of preciseness. During that time, Jacot got his inspiration from the stars movement around its axis. He strongly believed that the workings of time are as simple as a star revolving around its axis and his belief was reflected in his pieces. He even named his brand Zenith to give credit to the cosmos.
From then to now, Zenith has more than 1500 awards to its name. All of which are for designs that are highly innovative resulting to timepieces that can only be described as fine works of art and technology.
A case in point is Zenith's own mechanical movements. Having a proprietary movement is a feat limited to a minimum number of Swiss watchmakers. Zenith's movements are known as the Elite and the El Primero. The former stands for the standard movement while the latter represents chronograph. Between the two, El Primero is more acclaimed with its frequency of 36,000 alternations per hour. The number implies the chronograph's high accuracy.
Zenith has five collections namely the Chronomaster, Class, Defy, Port-Royal, Star, and Vintage. Out of the five, the Chronomaster uses the El Primero movement. Added to its precise telling of time, the Chronomaster is favored by many for its luxurious designs.
